Information:

In an edition of the Longford Leader, publihsed the 1 May 1915, the newspaper reported on a gathering held by the friends of Austin Mahon, who presumably enlisted with the 5th Royal Irish Regiment. No further detail is given on Austin, but it is likely he had a connection to the area. However, no futher information is available, as no records are available of an Austin Mahon that served in the RIR - it is possible that Austin was a nickname, and that he served under another name.

It is possible that this is the same Austin that was visiting his uncle, Fr. Edward Mahon, Parish Priest, at Legga in north County Longford in the 1911 Census.
