Michael was born Michael Christopher Clyne on the 15 December 1887 in Ballymahon; Michael's father Peter had previously been in the Army. Michael had served in WW1 in 1914, for which he received the 1914 (Mons) Star; he also received the general service medal with clasp for Mesopotamia/Iraq after the war.
