| Information: | Denis was born in 1882 at Drumanure, Abbeyshrule. Initially, he joined the army in Glasgow on 18 September 1901. He served in the Royal Field Artillery until 9 October 1906 when he was transferred to the army reserve. He was re-engaged in the R. F. A. on 18 September 1913 and mobilised for active service on 6 August 1914 in Athlone Barracks, a R.F.A. depot. He was promoted to corporal on 8 August. He was on active service on the Western Front from 9 September 1914 to 25 November 1917, and thereafter continued to serve at ‘home’ (meaning in Ireland or Britain) until 31 March 1920. He served in the Irish army 1922-28. Denis died in 1937. Denis was one of four brothers who served in the war, the others being John (killed in action), Christopher and Peter. |
