Information:

Cornelius was born 11 March 1872 Longford, to Terence and Maria (Mary) McManus.

Cornelius enlisted for the army in Longford. During the war the 2nd Battalion landed at Saint-Nazaire as part of the 17th Brigade in the 6th Division in September 1914 for service on the Western Front.

Cornelius was fighting through the Winter Operations at Rue De Bois. On the 7 Janurary 1915, the battalion bombarded a German trench south west of Wez Macqart. The enemy responded by firing several high explosive shells above head. It is likely that Cornelius was a casualty of this counter attack.

Parents Names: Son of Terence and Mary(née Farrell), McManus, Cloonageeher.
Notes: On Cornelius's Medal Roll card it states the name 'Patrick Donaghue' as an alias he may have used.
