Information:

John was born c.1885* in Longford. Prior to the war he was working as a carter in Longford. Pte McDermott enlisted in Longford Barracks. His brother, Edward, also served with the British Army with the 1st General Battalion Royal Irish Fusiliers (G279), in Bombay (modern-day Mumbai).

Parents Names: Son of the late Edward and Bridget McDermott of Abbeycarton, Longford.
Notes: The Commonwealth War Graves Commission suggest a birth year of c.1879 for John as they claim he was 37 when he died.
