Joseph was born in Newtownforbes on the 10 July 1886.

Pte Kelly enlisted in Longford Barracks, and entered the war in December 1915 on the Western front. Kelly was killed in action likely during an engagement by the 7th Leinsters in the Wijtschaete Sector, south of Ieper/Ypres.

Parents Names: Son of Bernard Kelly and Mary Anne (née McGinty) of Newtownforbes, Co. Longford
Notes: His age was given to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission as 28, giving a birth year of 1889.
