Information:

William Joseph was born in on or around the 29 June 1887, Ardagh Co. Longford; his birth was registered as Joseph Hamilton. Prior to the Great War, William was an employee of the Midland & Great Western Railway in Ireland. In November 1912 he married Joanne Kelly of Crossdoney, Co. Cavan, and they lived in Crenard, Co. Cavan.

William enlisted for war service in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath, and disembarked in France on the 27 August 1914. Little is known of his war service, however he went Missing In Action (MIA) on the 6 Nov 1914, and it is likely that he died in action at the First Battle of Ypres.

Parents Names: Son of William and Margaret (née Needham) Hamilton, of Ardagh.
Notes: From notes on his pensions index, it is thought that William was considered Missing In Action (MIA) until he was presumed dead in January 1916.
