Information: | John Dalton was born in Edgeworthstown on or around the 8 March 1894. The Dalton family ran a public house on Pound Street, Edgeworthstown; this later became The Dolphin which no longer stands. Based on anecdotal evidence, it is believed that John served with the Royal Field Artillery as a Driver, likely No 101461; this soldier was discharged on medical grounds on 7 Nov 1917, and could claim his pension from 7 Nov 1919. His sister, Mrs Kiernan of Pound Street was noted as next-of-kin. John appears to have suffered from mental illness, likely from his wartime service, and died in what is now St. Loman's Hospital, Mullingar in 1947.
